Initially confined to the asylum grounds, Vincent paints the world he sees from his room, deleting the bars that obscure his view. In the asylum's walled garden he paints irises, lilacs, and ivy-covered trees. Landscapes, such as Yellow Wheat and Cypress, would be some of the most exquisite paintings he would ever produce. Paintings from this period at Saint-Rimy are exhibited to critical acclaim.
