French painter and graphic artist Odilon was one of the great figures of the Symbolist movement. His early work was mostly done in black and white - charcoals and lithographs, and was influenced by the writings of Edgar Allen Poe. Emerging from a spiritual crisis and long illness later in his life, Odilon's work transformed with the use of radiant colors and a focus on cheerful subjects.
